Welcome to the Department of Foundational and Graduate Studies in Education (FGSE)! 

This is home to most of the graduate programs in the MSU College of Education, as well as home to the Educational Foundations courses that serve programs throughout the University.

We offer a number of degree and certification options in Adult and Higher Education (MA or EdS), Counseling, Educational Technology, Instructional (Administrative) Leadership, and Teacher Leadership. These options include a number of Master’s degrees, an Educational Specialist degree, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (with an emphasis in either School Administration or Educational Technology).

The FGSE faculty members have a long tradition of excellence in teaching, service, and research. This tradition spans local, state, regional, national and international venues with regards to informing policy, practice, instructional design, instructional delivery, and research. We embrace the theme “A Light To and From the Mountains,” recognizing that the knowledge we share is enriched by the knowledge, experiences, and traditions of the students we serve.
