Federal Student Employment Program
The Federal Student Employment Program is a federally subsidized student aid program designed to assist eligible students who must earn a part of their post secondary educational expenses. At Morehead State University students work in a variety of offices and departments with their work scheduled around their academic schedules.
Eligibility
The student may be eligible for a Federal Student Employment:
- if they are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States;
- if they have demonstrated need as determined by an approved need analysis system; and
- if they maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Note: All new student employees must consent to a background check. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a background investigation satisfactory to the university.
Awards
Eligible students generally are permitted to work 8 to 10 hours per week (up to 35 hours per week for summer and vacation periods when the student is not attending classes).
The amount of money earned depends upon the number of hours worked.
The pay scale will be the current minimum wage. Participants are paid semi-monthly.
Application
Application for the Federal Student Employment Program may be made by completing the Morehead State University Student Financial Aid Personal Data Sheet and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Student Responsibilities
Once awarded Federal Student Employment, the student will receive an assignment letter with their Student Employment assignment. When possible,the student is assigned to work in an area of academic or personal interest.
Prior to beginning work, all students who have been awarded a Federal College Student Employment must have a current Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate (W4-K4) and an I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form on file.
Students must include in their gross income for tax purposes everything received for personal services. This includes wages, salaries,commissions,tips,and fees. Federal Student Employment earnings are considered taxable income.
