 Pre-College Curriculum Requirements

The State of Kentucky requires that all graduates of Kentucky high schools complete specific credits before admission to state universities.  Students lacking any of the requirements are classified as PCC deficient and must take specific college classes to remediate the deficiencies. High school requirements are:

English / Language Arts - 4 Credits

Science - 3 Credits

Mathematics - 3 Credits

Social Studies - 3 Credits

Foreign Language - 2 Credits

Visual & Performing Arts - 1 Credit

Health - 1/2 Credit

P.E. - 1/2 Credit

 

 

Students must complete all Pre-College Curriculum requirements before completing 24 college credit hours.  Pre-College Curriculum requirements are based on a student's high school transcript - NOT on ACT scores.

There are no ACT or SAT scores for placement in this requirement.  Students with a PCC requirement in Science must take one of the following courses:

ACT Science subscore of 23 and above exempts student from PCC science requirement.

 

 

 

 

SOCIAL SCIENCE

 

 

 

There are no ACT or SAT scores for placement in this requirement.  Students with a PCC requirement in Social Science must take one of the following courses:

HIS 202

SOC 101

GOVT 141

 

ACT Reading subscore of 22 and above exempts student from PCC Social Science requirement.

 

 

 

 

Health & Physical Education

There are no ACT or SAT scores for placement or exemption of this requirement.  Students with a PCC requirement in Health & Physical Education must take one of the following courses:

HLTH 151

VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS

There are no ACT or SAT scores for placement or exemption of this requirement.  Students with a PCC requirement in Visual & Performing Arts must take one of the following courses:

FNA 160

THEA 110

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

 

 

None in H.S.

Two semester sequences in a language (Ex. Spanish 101 and 102)

1 Year in H.S.

Placement Test.  Based on scores, 1 or two semesters, or score may be waived and take 2 semesters

2 Years in H.S.

Exempt

 

 

 

 

 

 

The following students are exempt from PCC requirements:
    1. Students who are 21 or older at the time of application,
    2. Students who are out-of-state or international students,
    3. Students who meet the ACT or SAT exemption score for PCC requirement,
    4. Students who are in associated degree programs, or
    5. Active duty military personnel, their spouses and dependents.

NOTE: A student with a  PCC requirement is locked into an associate degree program when admitted.  The student must complete all PCC requirements before declaring a bachelor's degree program unless the student has an academic index of 500 or above.
