What is Exercise Science?
Exercise Science is the study of the anatomical and physiological aspects of exercise and human performance. Concentration areas within exercise science include functional anatomy and biomechanics, exercise and integrative physiology, motor learning, and exercise program development. Applications of exercise science include corporate and clinical fitness, cardiac rehabilitation, sports conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and coaching.
Program Curriculum
The Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Sciences at Morehead State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. Through course work, laboratory experiences and internships, the Exercise Science program is dedicated to ensuring the student acquires the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to compete in the job market or for continuing in a pre-professional program.
There are two separate options in the Exercise Science area of concentraion
Core courses include Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Functional Anatomy/Biomechanics, Principles of Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Planning and Managing Exercise Programs, Exercise Leadership, Exercise Management for Special Populations, Princples of Nutrition, Athletic Training, Evaluation in Exercise Science, Introduction to Therapeutic Exercise, Lifetime Fitness and Health and Wellness Promotion.
Both degree concentrations prepare students to sit for the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association certification exams. Graduates of this 60 hour program will complete two internships on the way to earning a Bachelor of Science degree. The American College of Sports Medicine has endorsed the curriculum for Morehead State University's Exercise Science undergraduate program. The curriculum covers the knowledge, skills and abilities expected of an ACSM Health/Fitness Instructor.

Exercise Science Faculty
Gina Blunt, Ph.D.
Dr. Blunt has been with Morehead State University since the fall of 2006. She received her MS from the University of Central Florida and her Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Blunt is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Manuel Probst, Ed.D.
Dr. Probst has been with Morehead State Universtity since the spring of 2001. He received his MA and Ed.D. from the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion emphasising in Exercise Physiology. Dr. Probst holds the ACSM Exercise Test Technologist, Exercise Specialist and Program Director certifications and the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. His research areas of interest include blood pressure control, ergonomics and karate physiology/training.
