Health Promotion

Eta Sigma Gamma Chapter Delta Mu

"Is the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health”.(American Journal of Health Promotion, 1989,3,3,5)
Health Promotion:

  • Is a field of study that examines how knowledge, attitude, and beliefs of both individuals and the communities in which they reside contribute to health behavior.

  • Has an emphasis on wellness and how best to help individuals and communities achieve a state of wellness in the six dimensions of health: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, and environmental.

  • Uses the educational process as well as skill development in helping individuals and groups achieve and maintain wellness.

Students in health promotion participate in conferences such as KAHPERD and AAHPERD.  They are also actively involved in the Eta Sigma Gamma professional health education honorary.
