Morehead State University is a public state institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and is ranked among the top public universities in the South by U.S.News & World Report.

MSU has 140 undergraduate and 74 graduate degree programs in four colleges: Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Business and Technology; College of Education; and College of Science. Admission Process 

To be admitted, international students must submit the following to Undergraduate Admissions in the Office of Enrollment Services:

  • International Student Undergraduate Admission Application  
  • Official transcripts – an officially licensed credential evaluation may be needed.
  • Evidence of English language proficiency either by taking the official TOEFL, IELTS or Michigan Test, or be an applicant from a listed country.
  • If you do not have an official TOEFL or IELTS score, consider applying for MSU's English as a Second Language - Intensive English program, which is a full-time program focused on developing English proficiency (F Visa). Visiting international students (J Visa) may take courses for language support while taking courses in their majors.
  • $30 application fee 

To assist in the proper placement of students in the areas of English, mathematics, science and social studies, all entering freshmen must take the ACT exam upon arrival unless valid ACT or SAT scores are on file.

Transfer from Another College or University

Students transferring to the University from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States must submit the following:

Transfer of Credits: Credits earned from international institutions will be considered only after they have been evaluated by World Education Services, Inc.; website: www.wes.org; mailing address: P.O. Box 11623, Chicago, IL 60611-0623; email: midwest@wes.org. It is the student's responsibility to contact the agency and pay all service fees.


Entering transfer students with fewer than 24 semester hours of credit completed may be asked to take the ACT exam for placement in English, mathematics, science and social studies courses.


Scholarship Opportunities

More than 90 percent of our undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid, and our friendly, knowledgeable financial aid staff can help you learn how to manage your educational expenses responsibly. MSU offers two scholarships specifically for international undergraduate students.


Honors Scholarship 
The scholarship covers tuition, on-campus housing cost up to a four-person suite, meal plan cost up to the 15 flex meal plan, and up to $600 per semester for the cost of books and supplies charged to the student account at the MSU Bookstore; and is applied after other eligible aid is posted. Total financial aid may not exceed total cost of attendance. Please visit the Honors Scholarship webpage for details. 

International Student Scholarship 
To be eligible, students must either 1) apply as an incoming freshman with an ACT Composite of 20 or SAT score of 940 (Critical Reading and Math) or 2) as a transfer student with a GPA of 3.3. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress for renewal.
