The Interdisciplinary Women's Studies Program at Morehead State University seeks to provide students with an understanding of how gender is constructed and employed in educational, historical, aesthetic, sociological, and political contexts. The intention is to equip students with the knowledge and analytical abilities needed to recognize and transform gender inequality in their own lives and in the world at large. Our goal is to provide MSU and its surrounding community with events, programs, and courses that raise awareness of women's particular situations and to support feminist student activism.
The purpose of the program is:
- to inform students of the diversity of women's contributions across academic disciplines in a multicultural and global society;
- to increase students' knowledge of the varied contributions of women throughout history;
- to challenge students to use a variety of critical thinking and problem-solving skills to recognize and contend with gender inequality at the individual and social level;
- to expand students' knowledge and consciousness regarding their choices in families, politics, work, and leisure.
