Jazz Studies

The Jazz Studies program at Morehead State University is one of the oldest in Kentucky.

Designed for students interested in learning how to perform, compose, arrange, and teach jazz music at a professional level, our program will prepare you for a number of careers in jazz theory, composition, improvisation and the commercial music industry. Career titles may include:

  • Arranger (adaptor)
  • Artist and repertoire coordinator and administrator

Dedicated Faculty Members and Hands-On Instruction

MSU is one of only a few universities nationwide that hosts a resident faculty jazz ensemble. In addition to contributing to the musical life of the region, faculty members serve as role models and mentors for the student jazz groups, including two large jazz ensembles and a number of small combo groups.

You will be able to participate in a number of performance experiences, and will receive private applied lessons in your instrument, as well as instruction in classical music theory, history and world music. Course offerings include:

  • Friday, February 20, 2015

*Admission to the jazz program is contingent upon acceptance into the studio of the applied teacher for your instrument.
