North American Politics: United States and Canada

North American Politics will look north to Canada, our largest trading partner, as it looks south at us: a country ten times its population whose culture exercises an hydraulic effect on its way of life. To explore these two distinct, but intimately-related nations which share the North American continent, the course will focus on their national origins and cultural foundations, their political institutions and their health, environmental, trade, energy, and security policies.

This course will originate from Morehead State University, use the MSU Blackboard server, and be taught by Dr. William Green, MSU Professor of Government. This course may be taken by Morehead State, WKU, EKU, and Georgetown College students. Government and Politics of Britain and Canada

Canada and Britain have shared a lengthy common experience which will provide the opportunity to study the characteristics of their political cultures, the role of public opinion, pressure groups, and political parties, the evolution of their governments, the behavior of their legislatures, prime ministers, cabinets, and civil servants, the nature of their regional and local governments, and the manner in which they make and implement major public policies with comparisons to the political system of the United States.

This course will originate from Western Kentucky University, use the WKU Blackboard server, and be taught by Dr. John Petersen, WKU Professor of Political Science. Politics of the North American Auto Industry

The changing global economy has placed the future of the North American automobile industry in jeopardy. This course will explore the politics of the Big Three automakers in the United States and Canada in terms of global trends in the automobile marketplace, the emergence of Asian transplants in North America, the challenge of flexible production methods to traditional assembly line production, the role of union labor, the advances in construction and fuel efficiency, and the prospects for renewal of North American auto manufacturing.

Geography of the

The Geography of the United States and Canada will examine the physical landscapes, settlement patterns, political geography, agriculture, industry, and transportation, urban geography, and cultural regions of these two North American neighbors. The course project will be a report which examines a U.S. or Canadian town in terms of the principal course themes.
