Canadian Studies at
Georgetown College
Georgetown College, beginning in the beginning in the Fall 2005, will be the first Kentucky Canadian Studies Consortium campus to offer graduate courses in Canadian Studies. Georgetown College Master of Arts in Teaching students will be able to include in their graduate studies the Canadian Studies Online Program team taught Perspectives on Canada and specialized courses in Canadian history, government, civil liberties, environmental policy, economic life, and social and cultural issues taught from comparative and international perspectives.
These Canadian Studies Online Program courses are available to Georgetown graduate students, because Georgetown College in 2001 joined with Morehead State University, Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky to create the Kentucky Canadian Studies Consortium which has offered online courses to consortium students since the Fall 2001. Since then Canadian Government’s Canadian Studies Program Enhancement Grants have facilitated consortium-wide Canadian Studies Online Program development and its institutionalization.
At Georgetown College graduate students may take Canadian Studies Online Program courses taught by faculty at WKU, MSU, EKU, and Georgetown College. These courses will be designed for K-12 social studies, language arts, and French teachers and will require them to develop units of study to incorporate into their elementary, middle, and high school courses. Students interested in CSOP courses should contact Dr. David Foreman, Professor of Education, at eve_proffitt@georgetowncollege.edu .
