As it relates to The Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University, “traditional” music includes Bluegrass, Old Time, Country, Ballad Singing, Blues, Celtic, Western Swing and many other forms. The music with which we are most involved, stems from, or is influenced by the music that is identified with our southern Appalachian mountain region. The Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University is a stand-alone unit within the division of University Advancement. The Center houses an academic “Traditional Music Program,” the “Traditional Music Archives” and “Sounds of Our Heritage” outreach program. It is academically responsible to the Provost through the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance chair and is culturally allied with The Kentucky Folk Art Center.
