Traditional Music Minor

This program is offered in conjunction with MSU's Department of Music.

KCTM partners with Morehead State University’s Department of Music to offer students Minor in Traditional Music Studies. This unique program allows students to explore Kentucky’s rich musical heritage. Kentucky is a crossroads of musical styles, and the musical exchange that occurred here between Celtic, European, and African cultures has been a driving force in the broader story of American music.

The Minor in Traditional Music Studies addresses issues of style, community, revival, and
commercialism. Participating students examine the following areas:
String Band Music
Bluegrass
Blues
Shape-note singing
Gospel
No formal musical background is required for enrolling in the program.
