High School Students

Four year scholarships are available and, in most cases, can be taken in addition with any other scholarship or grant you may receive.  High school students who are applying for admission to MSU can also enroll in basic ROTC classes with no military obligation.  To apply for a national ROTC scholarship follow this link:  http://www.goarmy.com/rotc/hs_four_year_scholarship.jsp

MSU/Transfer Students

Already enrolled at MSU or looking to transfer?  Scholarship opportunities are still available!  Attend our Leadership Training Course during the summer.   LTC  is a paid month long course at Ft. Knox, KY, in which all travel, food, and housing is covered.  You will learn tactics, land navigation, and marksmanship while earning basic credit for basic ROTC classes.  Attending LTC does not obligate you to join the military, however, should you decide ROTC is right for you, scholarship money and loan repayment is available.  To apply and learn more you can contact us or visit our national website:  www.goarmy.com/rotc or www.army.rotc.com/edu/moreheadstate/index.htm

National Guard and Reserve Soldiers

Are you in the Army National Guard or Army Reserves?  Enroll in ROTC through the Simultaneous Membership ProgramSMP is a cooperative program that places Reserve Component soldiers into officer-trainee positions with their TPU unit while they participate as full-time students in ROTC.  SMP cadets are nondeployable so they can complete their college degree.

BENEFITS:

  • 100% tuition assistance
  • Receive experience and serve in a TPU as a company grade officer.
  • Receive a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GFRD) scholarship if desired. Non-scholarship students may request GRFD contract, and if approved, are assured they will have USAR unit duty only.
    • Receive pay as an E-5. An E-5 (2 year of service) is entitled to $42.39 for one reserve drill. In general, a weekend drill is worth 4 one-day drills; $42.39 * 4 = $169.56 per weekend. An SMP participant who performs 12 weekend drills per year could earn $2,034.72.
    • Receive annual training pay with TPU (an E-5 is entitled to $40.92 for each day of AT; $42.39 * 14 = $593.46)
    • Receive a ROTC subsistence allowance of $350-500 per month for 10 month ($3,500-$5,000 per year)
    • Receive Advance ROTC Camp cadet pay during the summer of your junior year (approximately $700)
    • One-year possible benefit:
      • ROTC Subsistence allowance: 5,000.00
      • Weekend Drills: 2,034.72
