SCABBARD AND BLADE HONORS SOCIETY

Congratulations to our Senior Scabbard & Blade members on their recent Order of Merit rankings!  Company Commander Robert McWhorter is the top ranked cadet in our Cadet Command Brigade, which includes all the schools with ROTC in Kentucky and Ohio, and is ranked in the top 1% nationally!  Also, Cadet Lucy Bowen is ranked in the top 10% of all Active Duty selectees nationally.  Both of these society members were selected for the Distinguished Military Graduates list (top 20% nationally), along with Cadets Adam Barlow and Jacob Chocholous.  Congratulations and great job Seniors!! 

The National Honors Society of Scabbard and Blade was founded at the University of Wisconsin during the school year 1904-05 by five senior officers in the cadet corps.  The main purpose of Scabbard and Blade is to raise the standard of military education in American colleges and universities; to unite in closer relationship their military departments; to encourage and foster the essential qualities of good and efficient officers; and to promote friendship and good fellowship among the cadet officers.

The Morehead State ROTC program re-established the Military Honors Society Scabbard and Blade in Spring of 2006.  Only the top 10% of the ROTC program are permitted entrance into Scabbard & Blade, making it the most elite organization within ROTC.  Active members are chosen from outstanding cadets and must have high academic achievements, high moral character, and exceptional leadership characteristics.  Members of the re-established Scabbard and Blade Society in Echo Company, 17th Regiment of Morehead State University are (front row) Shannon Martin, Devin Mccane, Stephanie Chesshire, Eric Boos, Larry Sue Deel, Jacob Chocholous, (back row) Kristen Gelhaus, Robert McWhorter, Eric Patton, and Adam Barlow.  The Society advisor is MAJ (Ret) Hollis Isham (back row, far left).
