- Rowan County Christmas is now accepting donations for new books and toys or a financial gift. Financial gifts are used to purchase gifts and food vouchers for more than 600 families and senior citizens. Volunteers are needed and donations are tax deductible. Checks made payable to Rowan County Christmas can be mailed to P.O. Box 1323, Morehead, Kentucky 40351. Additional information is available at 606-783-2334.
- AmeriCorps and RSVP needs your help in feeding the hungry in Rowan County. They are trying to collect as much canned food as possible for local food pantries, emergency feeding centers, and designated stations for senior citizens. You can drop off you canned food at local businesses in town such as: Kroger, Slone’s food market, Wal-Mart. Dollar Store, Family Dollar, and Rowan County Public Library. - The Rowan County Public Library’s game night is scheduled for November 4th at 6pm and will feature Wii Sports and lots of board games. The event is open to all ages. For more information please call 606-784-7137.
- A performance of Legend of Sleepy Hollow will be at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, KY on November 4th at 7pm. The one-hour, family friendly children’s theater version of the play will be performed by the Paramount’s own acting troupe. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for kids. - The Kentucky Blood Center will be conducting a blood drive in Morehead on Nov. 4th at Wal-Mart from 11am-4:30pm on the KBC Bloodmobile. Donors must be 17 years-old, weigh 110 pounds and be in general good health.
- The Community Recycling Center portable drop-off unit will be coming to your end of the County on the following dates: Nov. 4th at Wal-Mart Parking Lot, Nov. 11th at the Hays Crossing/ Haldeman Fire Department lot, and Nov. 18th at the Wal-Mart parking lot. For larger loads and other recyclables such as glass and e-scrap continue going to the main location on Triplett Street.
- Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital’s breast cancer support group will meet Thursday, November 5th at 5pm in the Diabetes Education Classroom at the Bellefonte Center on 1000 Ashland Drive. Carol Cox from the First Baptist Church of Raceland is the speaker at the meeting and will present the topic “Spirituality and Recovery”. To register, contact the OLBH CareLine at 606-833-2273.
- Sleep out for the Homeless will be on Friday November 6th at 7:00pm through Saturday November 7th at 7:00am on Laughlin Lawn of MSU campus. This event will have free food, prizes, and music by Switchmen. Children under 18 must register with a parent. This event is to raise money and awareness. - Jennifer A Reis, teaching artist and assistant professor at Morehead State University, will be hosting an embellished textile workshop at the Winchester Opera House on Saturday November 7th from 12:30-5:00 pm in Winchester, KY. The cost of the afternoon workshop is $30. This is a first come, first serve bases and is limited to fifteen people. The deadline to register is November 4th. - Morehead State University’s Office of Enrollment Services will host an Open House on Saturday, November 7, from 9AM to noon in the Adron Doran University Center on the Morehead Campus. The Open House events will be an excellent opportunity for students and families to discover why MSU has been named one of “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S. news and World Report for sixth year running. - On Saturday, November 7th, Carol Bowles of Midway will create painted wooden bowls from 10:30 am -3:30pm at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. The Kentucky Artisan Center is open from 8:00am-8:00pm and is located just off I-75 at exit 77 in Berea. Admission is free.
- Join the Carl Perkins Community Center in Morehead, Kentucky for the Local Duck Unlimited Annual Banquet on Saturday, November 7, 2009. The doors will open at 5:00pm and the dinner will begin at 7:00pm. For information call Tim Leuenberger at 606-776-5766.

- The Morehead Marathon Team is sponsoring a World Run Day- Morehead 5K at the City Park Pavilion on November 8th. Registration will be at 2:30 and the race will begin at 3:30. - There is an Antique show in Greenup, Ky. at the Greenbo Lake State Resort Park on November 7-8. On November 7th it will be open from 10 am -6 pm and on November 8th from 10AM -4PM.
- Registration for spring semester is right around the corner it is set for November 9-13. You will register each day according to class. Graduate and post baccalaureate students will begin on Monday Nov. 9th, Seniors, post Baccalaureate and graduate students on Tuesday Nov. 10th, Juniors, seniors, post baccalaureate and graduate students on Wednesday Nov. 11th, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, post baccalaureates and graduate students on Thursday Nov. 12th and Freshman and new transfer students on will register on Friday Nov. 13th. - The Montgomery County Homemakers invite you to attend their annual Homemakers Bazaar on Saturday, November 14th from 8:00 am-1:00pm at the Montgomery County Health and Civic Center, Located on East Locust St. in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Santa will be available to listen to children’s Christmas wishes from 10:00am-11:00am and pictures may be taken upon request. Admission is free and open to the public.

- The Writing Eastern Kentucky Conference will be held Saturday, November 14th in Mt. Sterling featuring the Morehead State University creative writing faculty and 2009 Chaffin Award winner plus a number of regional authors and teachers. The focus of the conference is writing about place and offers sessions for both writers about place and offers sessions for both writers and teachers. Preregister for the conference by October 15 for just $40; advance register by November 2 for $50; or pay $65 at the door.
- The Acoustic Guitar Masters Concert Series 10 will present in concert Celtic Guitar Master Tony McManus on November 14th, 2009 at the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky at 7:30pm.
- On Sunday, November 15th, actor Scott new will portray Daniel Boone in a performance titled “Coming into Kentucky” beginning at 2:00pm at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. Scott new has been portraying the legendary frontiersman Daniel Boone for the past 12 years and his performance at the Center is part of the Kentucky humanities Council’s Chautauqua Series. - Morehead State University’s office of Enrollment Services has announced a new program that will give prospective transfer students the option to attend three events this fall. Transfer Tuesday will be held on September 15th, October 13th, and November 17th on the MSU campus. Students will get a tour of campus and meet with an academic department where they will receive information about their desired program of study. - Ponderosa Steakhouse in Morehead has agreed to donate 20% of their sales to Rowan County Christmas from 11AM to 9Pm on Wednesday, November 18th. A ticket is required with the receipt to activate the donation. For more information you can call 7842201.

- The Caudill College of Humanities, Department of Music, Theatre and Dance are having Ye Old Madrigal Feaste at the Adron Doran University Center at Morehead State University on December 3-5, 2009, the admission is $30 individual sponsor, $400 corporate sponsor includes a table for ten, and MSU Faculty, Staff, and Students are eligible for a discount rate. Once you arrive you will be guided to the reception hall to mingle with our guest then from there you are on your way to the dinner hall, where you’re treated to a medieval dinner and MSU music, theatre, and dance students will entertain you with stories and music that are filled with holiday spirit.

- Morehead Lions club will be hosting The Grand Illusion Magic Show on Saturday, December 12th at 7:00 pm in the Button Auditorium on the Morehead State University Campus. This is to help enable the less fortunate receive eyeglasses and special eye surgeries from the Somerset Lions Club. Tickets are $10 for adults at the door, $7.50 if you pay in advance, $7.50 for children, and if the child is 5 years and younger they are free. You can call the ticket office at 859-234-8450.
