  • MSU at Mt. Sterling to offer master's in Adult and Higher Education

Beginning with the 2008 spring semester, Morehead State University at Mt. Sterling students may pursue a master’s degree in adult and higher education.

One class will be offered each term face-to-face. Students may register for additional courses each term through the Internet.

MSU’s adult and higher education graduate program is designed to develop the capacity of individuals to plan, organize and carry through a variety of education and service programs to meet adult learners’ needs in postsecondary and adult continuing education institutions.  The program is flexible in that students may plan their programs for preparation in teaching, administration, student personnel or developmental studies.

“The option is geared to those individuals who need credentialing in their work and will be a good alternative for those who do program planning, work in adult learning centers and institutions of higher learning,” said Dr. James B. Canipe, assistant professor of education.

“The greatest asset is the program is blendable and will fit with a variety of others. Students can enroll on a full or part-time basis depending on their area of specialization. Completion of the offering could lead to the Specialist in Education degree,” Dr. Canipe added.

To obtain the degree, students must complete 30 graduate hours, which includes the program requirements and nine hours in a variety of specialization areas.

“We want to provide classes that will meet the needs of those in the area,” Dr. Canipe said.  “We will work closely with our students on an individual basis.”

Morehead State offers the only master’s degree in adult and higher education in the state.
