The 7th Tri-State Middle School Honor Band

The Tri-State Middle School Honor Bands will take place on  Saturday,  November 20, 2010  and  we cordially invite you and your exceptional young band members to be a part of this exciting event.  Designed for students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades, the four Bands are geared toward those students who shine in their home programs and are ready to meet the challenge of more difficult literature.  Guest conductors for this premiere program are nationally recognized clinicians who specialize in working with the younger musician.

Students will be selected through three different levels. Each student may send an audition tape, be nominated by director or be recommended as a beginner.  Beginners must have a minimum of one year experience.  Each student auditioning must prepare a tape/CD.  Directors may choose to include all auditions on one CD.  Each student must be on a separate track.  Additional information regarding the audition is attached.  Nominations, recommendations, and audition recordings are due by October 12.

In order to qualify for nomination to these fine ensembles, wind players should exhibit a fine characteristic tone on their instrument and should be proficient in the keys of concert B-flat, E-flat, F, and A-flat.  Percussionists should be capable of performing on snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, accessories, and/or mallets and timpani.  Because at this stage of development, student range is often a consideration, please indicate which part assignment best suits each of your band members.

We hope that you will accept our invitation to nominate students for membership into the Tri-State Middle School Honor Bands.  It is our intent to offer to you and your students the very best musical experience possible.  We welcome your response and look forward to sharing an exciting day of music making with your exceptional students.
