You have taken an important step to learning about the outstanding educational opportunities available in music at MSU. Present in this site is information regarding the department’s degree programs, faculty, facilities, courses, activities, events, and ensembles as well as information for prospective students, current students, and MSU Music Alumni. If musical and academic excellence is important to you, then Morehead State is the place for you!

The Morehead State University Department of Music is widely recognized and respected nationally and internationally as a center of excellence in collegiate music education. As an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1965, the department has a long and distinguished history of proudly serving and enriching the culture of Kentucky and surrounding states by offering state-of-the-art programs for educating musicians and a full season of recitals and concerts for the public.

Musical training and performance opportunities also are provided for students who are not planning musical careers. Music students’ applied instructors in their major performing area serve as their academic advisors. Weekly lessons acquaint the instructor/advisor with the student’s strengths and interests and provide a solid base for counseling during the student’s study at MSU.

After you have explored our website, we hope that you will contact us directly to arrange a campus visit. During your visit you will be able to sit in on classes and ensemble rehearsals, meet several of our faculty and students, receive answers to your questions and, if time permits, take a private lesson.

Until then, thank you for visiting this site and enjoy your journey as you discover all that the Morehead State University Department of Music has to offer.

L. Curtis Hammond, DM
Interim Chair and Associate Professor of Music
