PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Morehead State University offers a wide range of options for music study and participation. Our nationally accredited degree programs include majors in music education, performance, accompanying, and jazz studies. Our outstanding ensembles offer performance opportunities in the university bands, choirs, orchestra, and numerous other instrumental and vocal ensembles.

For those students with a non-teaching undergraduate degree in music and wish to pursue teacher certification in music, the Department of Music also offers a Post-Baccalaureate Integrated Music P-12 Initial Certification Program.

Our graduate program offers the Master of Music Degree with emphases in music education or performance. Study is centered around a specialization in voice or in instrumental and choral conducting, composition, brasswinds, woodwinds, percussion, orchestral strings, keyboard instruments, guitar, and jazz. For more detailed information about our music degree opportunities and requirements, please see “Programs & Advising”.

Music performance opportunities for all Morehead State University students are virtually unlimited. Regardless of the major area of study, students may continue to make music at MSU by becoming active in one of the department's many large and small ensembles. Some of the groups available include the MSU Marching Band, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensembles I & II and University Orchestra, Concert Choir, University Chorus, Chamber Singers, OperaWorks, Black Gospel Ensemble, Traditional Music Ensemble, and numerous other small ensembles.

We urge you to arrange a personal visit to our campus on a school day. Your visit will allow us to get to know you better and will provide you with a first-hand look at our department and our world-class faculty. During your visit, you can observe classes, participate in ensemble rehearsals, meet our excellent faculty and students, and perhaps receive a private lesson.
