PROSPECTIVE GRADUATE STUDENTS
Graduate Music Programs
The Morehead State University Department of Music offers the Master of Music degree with an emphasis on performance or music education.
Master of Music: Emphasis on Music Education: This option privides a curriculum that offers both accessibility and flexibility. Several of the courses for this degree are offered online with future online courses under development. The flexible curriculum allows for a significant amount of study in instrumental and choral conducting, composition, brasswinds, woodwinds, percussion, orchestral strings, keyboard instruments, guitar, and jazz with additional opportunities to study music history and literature and music education.
Master of Music: Emphasis on Performance: Study is centered around a specialization in voice or in instrumental and choral conducting, composition, brasswinds, woodwinds, percussion, orchestral strings, keyboard instruments, guitar, and jazz.
Graduate Program Admission Requirements
General admission to graduate study at Morehead State University. Admission to graduate study is granted to students who meet the academic requirements and who hold a baccalaureate degree from Morehead State University or some other accredited institution of higher education, and to certain qualified Morehead State University seniors. A minimum grade point average (g.p.a.) of 2.5 on all undergraduate work is required.
Completion of a bachelor's degree in music or its equivalent.
A minimum g.p.a. of 3.0 on all undergraduate music courses above the freshman level.
Completion of the entrance examinations in music history/literature and music theory.
An audition by the appropriate music faculty is required for the "Emphasis on Performance" before a student can be admitted "unconditionally" to this program.

Music Graduate Assistantships
Graduate Assistantships are available in the following areas: Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Keyboards, Voice, Strings, Bands, Choirs, Instrumental Conducting, Choral Conducting, and Jazz Ensembles.
Stipends
Full Graduate Assistantship Stipend: $10,000 per academic year (20 hours per week); Half Graduate Assistantship Stipend: $5,000 per academic year (10 hours per week). Additional music scholarship assistance is available to qualified candidates. Graduate Assistantships are offered for one academic year (excluding summer) with the option for renewal for a second academic year.
Tuition Waiver
In addition to a stipend, Full and Half Graduate Assistantship recipients receive out-of-state tuition waivers. All recipients must pay the regular Kentucky resident tuition and incidental fees.
Enrollment
Graduate Assistant candidates must be admitted unconditionally to a Master of Music degree program at Morehead State University and be continuously enrolled as a full-time student (enrolled in at least 9 graduate credit hours but no more than 12) in courses at the 600 level and maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA).

letter of application describing GA area of interest, qualifications, and experience
current curriculum vita or résumé
reference list including telephone numbers and email addresses
CD/DVD recording of performance and/or conducting/teaching
portfolio of supportive materials
