PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

American Bandmasters Association (ABA)
The objectives of the ABA are the recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of the concert band and its music; helpfulness and fellowship among members; an increasingly higher standard of artistic excellence for the concert band, its performers, its conductors and its literature; and a constantly greater contribution through the concert band to the musical life and culture of all peoples. To these ends the organization shall honor outstanding achievement by invitation to membership; work for progress toward an international band instrumentation; encourage prominent composers of all countries to write for the concert band; and by example and leadership further enhance the concert band and its music within our cultural heritage.

American Choral Directors Association (ACDA)
Choral music enthusiasts are encouraged to join the student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. Georgia has the largest number of student chapters in the Southern Division of ACDA.

American Composers Forum
The American Composers Forum is committed to supporting composers and developing new markets for their music. Through granting, commissioning, and performance programs, we provide composers at all stages of their careers with valuable resources for professional and artistic development. By linking communities with composers and performers, the Forum fosters a demand for new music, enriches communities and helps develop the next generation of composers, musicians and music patrons.

American Music Conference (AMC)
The American Music Conference promotes the benefits of music, music making, and music education. AMC works tirelessly to keep music making and music education on the "front burner" of America's local and national decision makers. Leaders at every level of government have a role to play in making sure every child has access to a quality music program.

American String Teachers Association (ASTA)
The American String Teachers Association is a membership committed to advancing string education and performance. Its members include teachers, faculty, performers, string industry representatives, students, and string enthusiasts.

Band Chat Online
A free service providing serious musicians interested in the wind ensemble and symphonic band, with current information pertinent to the field. Here you will find a forum on which to discuss important issues with others in the profession, a resource guide for repertoire, and submitted programs from around the world.

Bands of America (BOA)
Bands of America, presenter of musical events for high school bands, allows music educators to interact through the BOA Network.

College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA)
The purpose of the College Band Directors National Association is to assist members in seeking individual and collective growth as musicians, educators, conductors, and administrators. Student Membership is available to the graduate or undergraduate student who is seriously involved in band activities and development.

College Music Society (CMS)
The College Music Society is a consortium of college, conservatory, university and independent musicians and scholars interested in all disciplines of music. Its mission is to promote music teaching and learning, musical creativity and expression, research and dialogue, and diversity and interdisciplinary interaction.

International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE)
With a mission to ensure the continued growth and development of jazz through education and outreach, the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) serves 8,000 members in 40 countries. A voluntary non-profit organization, IAJE initiates programs which nurture the understanding and appreciation of jazz and its heritage, provides leadership to educators regarding curriculum and performance, and assists teachers, students, and artists with information and resources.

International Clarinet Association (ICA)
The International Clarinet Association has members virtually everywhere in the world. A group of people working together, collaborating on the artistry, technique, teaching, and physics of the clarinet.

International Double Reed Society (IDRS)
The worldwide organization of double reed (oboe and bassoon family) players, instrument manufacturers and enthusiasts.

International Horn Society (IHS)
Since 1970, the International Horn Society (IHS) has been an organization of people from around the world drawn together with aims and a purpose, and a mutual interest in a musical instrument, the Horn. We are dedicated to performance, teaching, composition, research, and the preservation and promotion of the Horn as a musical instrument.

International Music Products Association (NAMM)
NAMM, founded in 1901, is the international voice of the music products industry, representing more than 7,700 retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers and publishers in the United States and more than 85 other countries. NAMM is dedicated to growing the global music products industry through the development of groundbreaking research, programs and partnerships that create more active music makers worldwide.

International Trombone Association (ITA)
An organization of trombone players around the world that are dedicated to improve the artistic level of performance, teaching, and literature associated with the trombone.

International Trumpet Guild (ITG)
A nonprofit organization, founded in 1974 to promote communications among trumpet players around the world and to improve the artistic level of performance, teaching, and literature associated with the trumpet.

International Tuba and Euphonium Association (ITEA)
Founded as Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association in 1973, the International Tuba and Euphonium Association is dedicated to promoting and advancing tuba and euphonium playing of all types.

International Women’s Brass Conference (IWBC)
The International Women’s Brass Conference exists to provide opportunities that will educate, develop, support and inspire all women brass musicians who desire to pursue professional careers in music.

Jazz at Lincoln Center
Jazz at Lincoln Center is the world's largest not-for-profit arts organization committed to promoting the appreciation and understanding of jazz through performance, education, and preservation. With its resident orchestra, the world-renowned Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and a variety of distinguished guests, Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates and advances this distinctly American art form by producing a wealth of programs for audiences of all ages. These include concerts, national and international tours, lectures, film programs, master classes, student and teacher workshops, residencies, recordings, publications, television broadcasts, a Peabody Award-winning weekly radio program, an annual high school jazz band competition and festival, a band director academy, and a jazz appreciation curriculum.

Kappa Kappa Psi
Kappa Kappa Psi is a fraternal organization that promotes the advancement of college and university bands through dedicated service and support to bands; comprehensive education; leadership opportunities; and recognition; for the benefit of its members and society.

Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA)
KMEA, the Kentucky Music Educators Association, is an organization consisting of over 1500 professional music educators at all levels from kindergarten to the university level who are dedicated to the cause of music education for Kentucky children. Included are in-service, pre-service and retired music educators. Associated with the MENC: The National Association For Music Education, KMEA serves as a voice for Kentucky's music educators.

Music Educators National Conference (MENC)
MENC is the National Association for Music Education in the United States. MENC's mission is to advance music education by encouraging the study and making of music by all. Students are encouraged to join the UWG Collegiate Chapter of the Music Educators National Conference (CMENC). As with other professional organizations, membership entitles the student to attend annual professional conferences, including the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference. Members also receive the "MENC Journal" and "Teaching Music".

Music Teachers National Association (MTNA)
The Music Teachers National Association is the principal organization that supports the efforts of private teachers. Founded by Theodore Presser and sixty-two colleagues in 1876, MTNA provides a national forum for considering all aspects of private music teaching and learning. MTNA today consists of 24,000 independent and collegiate music teachers committed to furthering the art of music through programs that encourage and support teaching, performance, composition and scholarly research.

National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors (NACWPI)
The National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors (NACWPI) is a forum for communication within the profession of applied music on the college campus. The Association is composed of university, college, and conservatory teachers and is dedicated to: 1) Encouraging and developing more effective teaching of wind and percussion instruments on the college level. 2) Providing the efficient interchange of information, ideas, and materials among the members. 3) Encouraging the publication, recording, composition, and distribution of good music for wind and percussion instruments. 4) Fostering the development and manufacture of the best in wind and percussion instruments. 5) Coordinating the activities of the membership with other groups having common interests. 6) Encouraging the performance of solo and chamber music in which wind or percussion instruments have significant roles.

National Association of Schools of Music (NASM)
NASM is an organization of schools, colleges, and universities that offer music studies. Founded in 1924, it has 587 institutional members. It established threshold standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials. Institutional membership is obtained and continued through the peer-review process of accreditation. NASM provides statistical information, professional development, and policy analysis services. It also makes available for purchase many helpful publications, including a list of accredited institutions.

National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS)
With a membership of over 5,000, the National Association of Teachers of Singing is the largest association of teachers of singing in the world. NATS encourages the highest standards of singing through excellence in teaching and the promotion of vocal education and research. NATS members include both private-studio teachers and faculty voice teachers, and both are welcome and encouraged to participate in NATS events and activities.

National Band Association (NBA)
The National Band Association, founded on September 11, 1960, is the largest band organization in the world. It was organized for the purpose of promoting the musical and educational significance of bands and is dedicated to the attainment of a high level of excellence for bands and band music. NBA is an organization open to anyone and everyone interested in bands, regardless of the length of his/her experience, type of position held, or the specific level at which he/she works. The membership roster includes men and women from every facet of the band world.

National Flute Association (NFA)
It is the mission of the National Flute Association (NFA) to further and promote the cause of the flute by encouraging an increasingly higher standard of artistic excellence for the flute, its performers, and its literature; helpfulness and fellowship among members; a constantly greater contribution through the flute to the musical life and culture of all peoples; the creation and/or sponsorship of worthwhile projects relative to the flute and flute playing; and the formulation of guidelines and establishment of criteria for the upgrading of flute teaching.

National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts
The Guild is the national service organization for a diverse constituency of nonprofit, non-degree granting institutions located in urban, inner-city, suburban and rural communities throughout the United States.Ê The Guild's mission is to foster and promote broad access to high quality arts education designed to meet community needs. To that end it provides service, advocacy and leadership for community arts education organizations.

North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA)
The North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA)is a music service organization promoting saxophone education, literature, research, performance and appreciation throughout North America and the world.

Percussive Arts Society (PAS)
The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) is a music service organization promoting percussion education, literature, research, performance and appreciation throughout the world.

Phi Beta Mu
Phi Beta Mu is the only national or international bandmasters' fraternity in the world.

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
Sinfonia became a national fraternity on October 6, 1900, with the admission of a group of men at the Broad Street Conservatory in Philadelphia. Since that time Sinfonia has grown into the largest music fraternity in the world, with more than 140,000 initiates, and chapters on over 200 college and university campuses across the nation.

Pi Kappa Lambda
This Society is established to provide an organization dedicated to the furtherance of music in education and education in music in colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher learning which offer music degree programs in one or more fields. This objective is to be achieved through selection and recognition of those juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have demonstrated superior achievement in a program of instruction in which the chapter is established.

Sigma Alpha Iota
The purpose of SAI are to form chapters of women college students and alumnae who have a sincere interest in music; to uphold the highest standards of music; to further the development of music in America and throughout the world; to give inspiration and encouragement to members; to organize the cultural life of Sigma Alpha Iota members as a contributing factor to their educational growth; to support the ideals and goals of the member's Alma Mater; and to adhere to the highest standards of citizenship in school, community and fraternity life.

Tau Beta Sigma
Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority provides service to collegiate bands, encourages the advancement of women in the band profession, and promotes and enriches an appreciation of band music through recognition, leadership development, and education of its members.

The Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME)
The Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME) is a non-profit corporation registered in the State of Pennsylvania whose mission is to assist music educators in applying technology to improve teaching and learning in music.

World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE)
The World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles is the only international organization of wind band conductors, composers, performers, publishers, teachers, instrument makers and friends of wind music. It is the only organization completely dedicated to enhancing the quality of the wind band throughout the world and exposing its members to new worlds of repertoire, musical culture, people and places.
