STEEL BAND

The MSU Steel Band is offered as an extension of the MSU Percussion Ensemble and provides another excellent opportunity for students to perform music of other cultures. The band performs a wide variety of music including traditional calypso and soca to that of Latin, reggae, disco, pop and seasonal music. MSU Steel Band performances have also include performances of Tamboo Bamboo, used by native Trinidadians prior to the advent of steel drums, and information relating to historical aspects of the music and the instruments.

The group has performed at the North American Brass Band Association's annual conference and on tours with the MSU Percussion Ensemble in several states. In the spring of 2005, the band offered it's premier full-length program to an enthusiastic audience outside of the newly renovated Adron Doran Student Center on the MSU Campus.

The group plays instruments created by the legendary pan creator and innovator Ellie Mannette and Mannette Steel Drums, West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia.
