Marching Percussion Audition FAQ

When are the auditions?
…Auditions for the marching percussion section begin following the new member orientation.

For what instrument should I audition?
…You should audition for the instrument that you would like to play, whether you think you will earn that spot or not.  Based upon your skill level and level of experience, you will be placed in the spot that will allow you the greatest opportunity for your growth and contribution to the band.

How many spots are available?
…All spots are open each year and each person must earn his or her position in the ensemble each year.  The exact instrumentation varies slightly from year to year and will be determined during the first weekend of band camp.

What if I’m not good enough?
…There IS a spot for you in the ensemble, as long as you are enrolled as a student at Morehead State University in MUSM 172 (section 003 for percussion).

How will I be evaluated?
…You will be evaluated on your ability to control rhythm and tempo, your quality and consistency of sound, and your ability to think.  Try your best to be comfortable, relaxed, and confident.  We want to see you do your best.
