INSIGHT holds pinning ceremony

Morehead State University hosted INSIGHT, a postsecondary preparation program designed to provide blind or visually photo-victor-herrenimpaired students with an opportunity to experience some of the challenges encountered when entering a university or community college.

This is the fourth straight year that MSU has hosted the program and this year there are 10 participants.

The partners are Big East Educational Cooperative, Kentucky School for the Blind, Kentucky Office of the Blind, University of Louisville and MSU.

Victor Herren, Lynn Camp High School (Corbin) senior-to-be, was recently honored with a pinning ceremony. He is totally blind and for most of his life has had a sighted guide.  Herren also will take part in the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program at MSU.

One of the INSIGHT program goals, while Herren was on campus, was to work with him on these skills.

The orientation and mobility component of the program is to develop independent living and traveling skills (residence hall to classrooms, cafeteria, around town, etc.) for visually impaired or blind individuals.

Herren successfully completed his solo walk on MSU’s campus while attending the 2009 INSIGHT Program and the pinning ceremony was the culmination of that task.

At this time, there are nine past or current participants that completed the program, graduated high school and are planning to attend MSU in Fall 2009.

Additional information may be obtained by calling MSU’s Office of Continuing Education at (606) 783-2875.
