Rep. Higdon seeking open Senate seat

photo-jimmy-higdonState Rep. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, is trying to become the fourth Morehead State University alumnus in the 2010 Kentucky Senate.

Higdon, who is in his third two-year term in the House, is running for the 14th Senate District seat vacated by former Sen. Dan Kelly, R-Springfield, now a circuit judge. The district includes Marion, Mercer, Nelson, Taylor and Washington counties.

Higdon’s opponent in the Dec. 8 special election is former Rep. Jodie Haydon, D-Bardstown. The winner will serve until the 2010 general election.

MSU alumni currently serving the Senate are Sen. Walter Blevins, D-Sandy Hook; Sen. Robin Webb, D-Grayson; and Sen. Johnny Ray Turner, D-Drift. Turner is the minority caucus chair.
