Repair Affair deadline Jan. 15

Homeowners interested in applying for the second-annual Morehead-Rowan County Repair Affair now have until Friday, Jan. 15, at 4:30 p.m. to submit their applications for repairs. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for this year’s program.

Morehead Rowan Co Repair Affair logo“It is important that those interested in the free home repair service submit their applications before the deadline,” said Kali Casper, co-chair of the committee. “Low-income homeowners with a 60 percent area median income, homeowners age 62 and older, and/or homeowners with a disability are encouraged to apply.”

Randy Manis, lead coordinator and instructor in Morehead State University’s Department of Communication, Media and Leadership Studies, served as vice chair of last year’s Repair Affair and is co-chair of this year’s event.

“Last year, approximately 50 applications were submitted to the Repair Affair committee,” Manis said. “Due to the success of last year’s program, I expect to see a significant increase in the number of applications we receive.”

Applications can be obtained at local social service agencies, banks, Frontier Housing, Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce and the MRCRA Web site. Completed applications must be sent or delivered to the Chamber of Commerce, 150 E. First St. or Frontier Housing, 5445 Flemingsburg Rd. Completed applications also may be sent to the Repair Affair committee, P.O. Box 323, Morehead, KY 40351.

If applicants meet the minimal guidelines, they will be contacted to set up a site assessment by one of the Repair Affair team members. Following the assessment process, applicants will be notified if their home is chosen to receive repairs.

The Morehead-Rowan County Repair Affair is a community-wide initiative that will address the minor repair needs of low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners in Morehead and Rowan County. Approximately 30 homes will be selected from applications to receive safety, security or energy efficient improvements such as paint, door repair, window replacement, gutter and/or roof repair and other services. Repairs will include accessibility issues or repairs to living accommodations for elderly or for disabled individuals.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 10.

Additional information including income guidelines is available by calling the MRCRA committee at (606) 784-2131 or by visiting its Web site at www.moreheadstate.edu/mrcra.
