Non-Resident Academic Scholarship for Out-of-State Students

Application Procedure

To be eligible for this scholarship you must submit a completed application packet, including admission application form, transcripts and test scores, by the March 15 priority application deadline.

Requirements

Be admitted to MSU for the 2014-15 academic year as a new incoming freshman or transfer student and meet one of the following requirements:

1. Be an entering freshman with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and ACT composite score of 18 or higher (or SAT combined score of 860 or higher); and live in Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia; or

2. Be an entering freshmen and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and ACT composite score of 21 or higher (or SAT combined score of 980 or higher), regardless of place of residence; or

3. Be an entering freshman and the child, grandchild or spouse of an active MSU alumnus with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and ACT composite score of 18 or higher (or SAT combined score of 860 or higher) (Note: An active alumnus is defined as someone who makes annual gifts to the MSU Foundation Inc.); or

4. Be a transfer student with fewer than 30 hours with a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 2.5 and ACT composite score of 18 or higher (or SAT combined score of 860 or higher); and live in Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia; or

5. Be a transfer student with fewer than 30 hours and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and ACT composite score of 21 or higher (or SAT combined score of 980 or higher), regardless of place of residence; or

6. Be a transfer student with a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 on at least 30 semester hours

College credit hours completed prior to high school graduation, including Early College Program courses, do not affect scholarship eligibility.

Additional Information

This scholarship cannot be be awarded in addition to another academic achievement scholarship or full athletic aid.

Non-resident undergraduate students enrolled exclusively in internet courses and/or enrolled exclusively at a regional campus center will be assessed tuition and fees at the undergraduate resident rate, making them ineligible for this scholarship.

NOTE: Adams, Athens, Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike, Scioto and Vinton counties in Ohio receive special tuition rates making them ineligible for this scholarship.

Students receiving outside scholarships and other financial aid may not receive more aid than total cost of attendance.

Criteria for renewal: Maintain satisfactory academic progress toward graduation, continuous full-time enrollment (at least 12 hours)for fall and spring semesters as an undergraduate student with MSU, and satisfy the University’s mandatory housing policy.
