Graduates of our philosophy programs are trained to read critically, construct logically tight arguments and express thoughts clearly through both speech and writing, giving them the skills to market themselves in a competitive world.

We offer bachelor of arts degrees and areas of concentrations in the following:

  • Philosophy
  • Religious Studies

You can also earn a minor in philosophy.

Much More than a Degree

When asked what they look for in job candidates, employers agree a candidate’s ability to think critically, communicate clearly and solve complex problems is more important than their undergraduate major. Earning a degree with us will also prepare you for entrance into graduate schools for masters and Ph.D. programs and law school.

Did You Know?

  • Philosophy students perform substantially better than other students on graduate admissions exams including the GMAT, GRE and LSAT.

  • During the semi-annual career fair at MSU, two-thirds of all employers attending are not looking for any degree in particular. Philosophy students fare well in competing for those jobs.
  • The average median career income for philosophy majors compares well with other bachelor degrees.

John Lee
"My philosophy background really helps me in evaluating various theological perspectives here at seminary. Also, and most importantly I think, it has helped me to better understand and relate to the moral and intellectual worldviews of the people I meet and try to share my faith with. I really do believe that I'm a better person, a better Christian, and a better minister because of my studies in philosophy."
