The purpose of the Women's Studies Minor is to provide students with an understanding of how gender is constructed and employed in educational, historical, aesthetic, sociological, and political contexts. The intention is to equip students with the knowledge and analytical abilities needed to recognize and transform gender inequality in their own lives and in the world at large. |
Program Competencies
- to inform students of the diversity of women's contributions across academic disciplines in a multicultural and global society;
- to increase students' knowledge of the varied contributions of women throughout history;
- to challenge students to use a variety of critical thinking and problem-solving skills to recognize and contend with gender inequality at the individual and social level;
- to expand students' knowledge and consciousness regarding their choices in families, politics, work, and leisure.
Program Purpose

To provide students with opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding of women's roles and contributions historically and across cultures.

To challenge students to use a variety of critical thinking and problem solving skills when analyzing issues related to women and gender.

To raise awareness of diversity issues students encounter here and in their future professions.
Program Requirements
WST 273: Introduction to Women's Studies (Prereq: ENG 100) 3 sem. hrs.
WST 490: Integrative Capstone 3 sem. hrs.
Five 3 sem.-hr electives cross-listed with Women’s Studies 15 sem. hrs.
