Regional Stewardship

Welcome

Since its inception in 1887, Morehead State University has been a committed and integral partner with the region’s people and communities it serves. Under the strong leadership and example of MSU’s current president, Wayne D. Andrews, that commitment to engagement with the people of eastern Kentucky has only grown. In his Spring 2007 Convocation remarks President Andrews announced two important milestones, or rather, recognition notices, of Morehead State University’s commitment to community engagement. (http://www.moreheadstate.edu/news/release.aspx?id=10708)

First, President Andrews announced that Morehead State University has been named by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as one of only 76 institutions of higher education—both public and private—to be classified as a “community engagement institution.” The second announcement was regarding CPE’s new Regional Stewardship Program, and of Morehead State University’s determination and recommitment to regional engagement. Just as a successful community takes dedicated members, so will our renewed efforts at engagement take a university-wide commitment if it is to meet its true potential. President Andrews, in his 2007 Spring Convocation, said:

"Please do not leave this room today without realizing that all of us must work together to make a success of this emerging enterprise. Not only must we involve all of our colleges but also those administrative units with outreach capabilities...such as folk art, traditional music and public radio…. The Center for Regional Engagement is what we will call this noble endeavor and it will belong to all of us…because all of us are ultimately responsible for its success or failure."

We at Morehead State University fully realize the importance of our mission, and we are also aware that the only way we can succeed is if we all succeed. So with renewed energy, focus and determination, we ask you to help us at MSU as we seek to expand the commitment and involvement that have been a core of our mission for over a century.

Thank you,

David R. Rudy
