Several counties within our service region, as well as other areas across the state, have been devastated by recent tornados and storms. Students, faculty and staff have lost homes, family and friends. This means they will have difficulty attending classes, returning to work, or just meeting normal daily obligations.
This week we are reaching out to our alumni and friends to ask for support for our students. We have created a fund to support these students as they try to finish the semester. Contributions to the fund will be provided to students who have suffered losses in these storms to help defray academic expenses they encounter. This could include housing, replacement books, computers and school supplies, professional attire for interviews, etc.
While we are still uncertain exactly how many of our fellow Eagles have been impacted, we anticipate the number will be high. Nearly 1,500 of our students are from the counties that were most strongly hit. That’s about 1/6 of all our students.
You may show your support with a gift of $100, $50 or whatever you can give. Two funds have been established: MSU Cares Student Support Fund: This fund will provide financial support for academic related costs incurred by our students who have been impacted by the disaster. MSU Cares Community Outreach Fund: This fund will provide financial support to our official relief efforts coordinated through the Center for Regional Engagement and/or support employees who have been impacted by the disaster. Gifts can be made to the MSU Foundation and directed to either fund by sending checks/cash to the address below or by credit card online at https://alumni.moreheadstate.edu/makegift.
