| OVERVIEW |
- Morehead State University's Success Academy is targeted to new students with two or more areas of developmental need in English, mathematics, or reading (based on ACT scores).
- Participation in the academy is voluntary, but eligible students are contacted after admission, and strongly encouraged to participate.
- Students admitted to the academy take 6 credit hours of required developmental courses, and 3 credit hours of General Education requirements.
- Successful completion of the academy may allow student to register for 100 level college classes in the Fall, depending on their projected majors and any additional required classes.

| SUCCESS ACADEMY COST & FINANCIAL AID |
- 2009 Success Academy cost was $2,270.
- The academy fee includes tuition, room, meal plan (15 meals per week), books, tutoring, and weekend activities.
- Transportation, class supplies, and personal expenses are student responsibilities.
- Normal 2009 tuition alone for 9 credits was $2025. This made the 2009 Success Academy an exceptional value.
- Students eligible for financial aid are able to further reduce the cost significantly.
- A Financial Aid Data Sheet is available on the Success Academy website and should be sent at the same time as the Academy application.
- A link to the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is also available at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
- Cost of 2010 Success Academy are currently not available.

| ADMISSION |
- Students admitted to MSU for Fall 2010 with two or more developmental needs receive a personalized invitation to apply to the academy.
- Admission is not automatic, but based on ACT scores and information supplied in the application.
- Students selected for the academy, are notified by telephone, and sent a full packet of instructions on orientation, academy schedule, housing, meals, books, and financial aid.
- Students are admitted to the Academy on a first come, first served basis, so early application for admission, and submission of financial aid forms is important.
New ACT requirements were placed on new MSU students with start dates of 2009 Summer and/or 2009 Fall semesters.
New minimum requirements are:
- English - 18
- Math - 19
- Reading - 20
Any new student with ACT sub scores lower than the minimum requirements will be required to take developmental courses. MSU will offer a testing option during SOAR sessions for new students with an ACT English score of 17 and for students with an ACT reading score of 18 or 19. Students who successfully complete placement tests in these areas will be able to test out of developmental courses in English and reading.

| LIVING - LEARNING COMMUNITY |
- The Success Academy is located on MSU's main campus in Morehead Kentucky.
- Students live in university residence halls, and are subject to all university regulations.
- Residence assistants and tutor / peer counselors live in halls with students to provide academic support, programming, and administration of residence hall policies.
- There is a commuter option for students living near the campus.
- Meals are provided through campus dining facilities Monday through Friday, with weekend meals available in Morehead. Books are provided by the Academy, with students responsible for other class supplies.

Academy participants are fully admitted MSU students, and as such, are entitled to use any facilities that are normally available to students. These include the Wellness Center, swimming pool, basketball courts, tennis courts, and any other open facilities.

| TENTATIVE ACADEMIC PROGRAM AND SCHEDULE |
The tentative Monday - Friday daily Academy schedule is:
- Breakfast available in dining facilities prior to classes.
- 8:00a - 10:00a - English, Math, or Reading class and in-class tutoring
- 10:10a - 12:10p - English, Math, or Reading class and in-class tutoring
- 12:10p - 01:00p - Lunch and free time for students
- 1:00p - 02:00p - Individual advisor appointments
- 2:00p - 04:00p - General Education Class which counts toward graduation
- 4:00p - 05:30p - Academic Planning / Study session - Required 3 days per week
- 5:30p - 06:30p - Dinner available in dining facilities
- 6:30p - 08:00p - Learning Lab open for additional tutoring

REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES AND ORIENTATION
|
- Success Academy participants are expected to attend a scheduled SOAR event and be registered for classes by the Academy staff prior to the first day of classes.
- Students will also be registered for Fall classes based on the assumption of successfully completing Academy requirements.
- If a student is not successful in an Academy class, the Fall schedule will be adjusted to place the student in required classes.

All participants are also required to attend an Academy orientation session, Sunday June 28th. The orientation will cover staff introductions, university housing and disciplinary regulations, questions about academic classes, visits to classrooms and other facilities, and checking into residence hall rooms. Classes begin at 8:00 the following morning.
