Teacher Leader, Master of Arts

Program Info

MSU offers aspiring teachers a unique way to create positive change in the educational system with its Master of Arts, Teacher Leader program.

This graduate-level program is perfect for students with a bachelor's degree in education who want to earn a master's degree while expanding their career options.

The Teacher Leader program equips students with special skills and caters to their areas of specialization, allowing them to serve as resource teachers, consultants, committee chairs and instructional leaders among their peers in their schools and districts. Candidates are prepared to pursue opportunities beyond their own classroom and focus on skills needed to leverage both internal and external resources that influence student achievement.

Students enrolled in this program will have a mix of face-to-face and online classes with full-time education instructors teaching the bulk of the courses. Graduates will be certified to teach in Kentucky, but MSU's teacher leader program is the only one in the Commonwealth that preps students to become certified by the National Board of Education and teach in all 50 states.

Becoming a teacher leader is not only a great choice for numerous career options, it's perfect for aspiring teachers wanting to make noticeable change in the educational system. Teacher leaders often help connect teachers and administrators, especially in identifying what's working and what's not, resulting in better educational processes and policy. Teacher leaders can become an advocate for the needs of a particular grade level, school, school district and beyond.
