Spring Commencement 2021 Information

All commencement ceremonies for spring and summer 2021 graduates will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Academic-Athletic Center (AAC) on the campus of Morehead State University. The ceremony breakdown is as follows (click link for livestream - livestream will be available on May 8, 2021, 15 minutes prior to each ceremony): Commencement rehearsal will not be held this semester, so any updates or changes to commencement are below.

Student Arrival

You may arrive to the arena one hour prior to the start time of your ceremony. Please do not arrive earlier than this since entry to the arena will not be granted. When you arrive to the arena you will enter at the front of the AAC (facing US 60). You must wear a mask in order to enter the arena and at all times during the ceremony.

Once you enter the arena you will be directed to a seat and you need to remain in your seat until the ceremony begins.

Please refrain from bringing any personal belongings with you into the arena because you will not be returning to your seat once you have walked across the stage.

Ceremony and Individual Recognition of Students

Students will remain seated throughout the ceremony with the exception of standing when requested to do so for the National Anthem, recognition of honors, veterans, etc. Once it is time to individually recognize students, event ushers will indicate when it is your row’s turn to stand and approach the stage. It will be important to be aware of these requests and cues throughout the ceremony.

Once your row has stood, you will approach the stage, while maintaining an appropriate physical distance, with your reader card. You will hand your reader card to the reader and proceed to walk across the stage as your name is announced. There will be a table of diploma covers in which you will stop and pick one up as the photographer takes the first photo.

You will proceed to exit the stage and will be directed to another location in the arena to take a second photo. You may remove your mask for the second photo.

Once your second photo has been taken you will be directed to exit the arena to leave.

Guest Arrival

Guests may arrive to the arena no earlier than one hour prior to the start time of the ceremony. When guests arrive to the arena they will enter through the east entrance next to the AAC parking lot, labeled “Guest Entrance.” Each guest must have a ticket in order to enter the arena, including small children. Guests must wear a mask or appropriate face covering when entering the arena and at all times while in the arena. Guests who arrive unmasked will not be allowed to enter.

For security purposes, guests are asked to please refrain from bringing large bags to the stadium. Bags are subject to be searched. Please let your guests know this information so that they can be prepared as well. Once your name has been called and you have exited the stage, you guests should  leave the arena at that time as well, unless another family member will be recognized later in the ceremony. All guests will exit the arena the same way they entered. Congregating in the hallways and lobby of the AAC is not permitted.

Parking

Parking passes are not needed. Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the AAC and designated areas around Jayne Stadium.

ADA Accommodations

To accommodate all of our guests, accessible parking and seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis. When arriving to the arena please let our staff know if ADA seating or an accommodation is needed..
Any student participating in commencement that requires an accommodation should contact me directly at r.whitt@moreheadstate.edu.

Reader Card

If you have not picked up your reader card you will need to do so as soon as possible. Pick up will be available until Friday, May 7, at 4:30 p.m. You may grant someone permission to pick your card up on your behalf by emailing the permission and name of the person who will be picking up for you to graduation@moreheadstate.edu.

You will need to complete the back of the card and bring it with you to the ceremony on May 8. You will keep the card until the moment right before you walk across the stage. Grad Images is the official photographer for commencement and they will use the information from your reader card to provide you with a proof of your photos after commencement.

Tickets

If you have not picked up your tickets, you may do so until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7. We will not have a will call window, so tickets will not be available the day of the ceremony. Following the state of Kentucky guidelines for event capacity, each guest must have a ticket in order to enter the arena, including small children regardless of age.

Photographs

Two photos will be taken. One as you cross the stage to pick up your diploma cover and one as you exit the arena. Once you have walked across the stage you will exit the arena to leave. You will not return to your seat. You will be directed to the designated area to take a photo where you can remove your mask before exiting.

Masks and Social Distancing

All persons in attendance must wear a mask at all times while in the arena. Masks must be properly worn (covering your mouth and nose) for the duration of the ceremony. Social distancing must also be maintained. There will be no handshakes or hooding as you walk across the stage to pick up your diploma cover.
