About Amanda M.

About Me

My name is Amanda Maynard and I am your Enrollment Services Counselor at Morehead State University! I’m where you can ask any and all questions about the admissions process and about MSU in general. I spent 4½ years on this campus where I met my husband 5 years ago and we decided to raise our family in Morehead, KY, starting with our little girl Charlie.

I graduated from MSU in 2017 with a bachelor's in exercise science and I am currently enrolled in Graduate level courses on plan to obtain my master's in health and wellness. I was born and raised in Morehead, KY, and graduated from Rowan County Senior High School.

What MSU means to me

MSU to me focuses on you as a student and having long lasting relationships that will help you in the future, not just with other students but also faculty. I have advisors and professors that I can still call 3 years later that will write me a recommendation letter and get my child birthday presents.

Favorite building on campus

My favorite building on campus is by far the Recreation and Wellness Center. I would always meet up with my friends to walk around the track and vent everyday issues with and where I would always end up if I was bored and there were intramural games going on.

Favorite place to eat on campus

The Rock because it’s all you can eat, and who doesn’t love that?

If there is one thing you do while you are in Morehead

Get Pasquales cheese fries and the Hot Ham and Cheese sandwich platter, but you need to order them early if it’s Friday night because the local families pack the house. Sooner or later you will become a regular.

My favorite restaurant downtown

Melini’s. They have the best pizza and a slice is the size of your face! If I’ve decided I want to be healthy for a day, I hit up a personal friend and get a meal replacement shake from Head Strong Nutrition.

My advice for seniors

Push yourself out of your comfort zone. You may learn something about yourself that you never knew was inside of you. Five years ago you wouldn’t catch me speaking to a large group of friends, let alone a large group of strangers and that’s exactly what I’m doing now and I love it.

My advice when selecting a college

Ask questions. Let me repeat it. Ask Questions. There are no stupid questions and you are going to be spending a lot of money, a lot of time, and a lot of effort so you will need to know the criteria you want.

Make a checklist of certain aspects that you want while attending a college, whether it be food or extracurricular activities. Do they offer the major that you are interested in? You should have basic things on this checklist and also things that are important to you. Decide if you can compromise on certain aspects and then VISIT that campus. Meet the people on campus and meet the staff.
