What is the facility fee for?
The facility fee is a mandatory fee that will be used to pay repair expenditures for facilities that support the instructional mission of the university. This fee is required to be paid by all students (undergraduate, graduate, full-time, part-time and online students). This mandatory fee is $5 per credit hour with a maximum charge of $60 a semester.
Why do online students have to pay the facility fee?
The University must maintain physical facilities to offer online classes as well as face-to-face classes. (Ex. Facilities for instructors, technology equipment/staff, student support services, etc.).
Student Recreation and Wellness Center Fee – Is this a new fee?
No, this fee was previously included in tuition rates, but is now being charged separately to be more transparent. This fee is required to be paid by all students (undergraduate, graduate, full-time, part-time and online students). This mandatory fee is $9 per credit hour with a maximum charge of $100 a semester.
Why do online students have to pay the Student Recreation and Wellness Center fee?
This is a mandatory fee for all students (undergraduate, graduate, full-time, part-time and online students). Several years ago, MSU students voted and received Board of Regents approval to implement a $100 per semester mandatory fee to provide resources to pay for the construction of a new Recreation and Wellness Center. The mandatory fee is used to pay the annual debt service payment for the facility. The Recreation and Wellness Center was completed in 2011 and students will pay the mandatory fee until the debt service for this facility is paid in full.
Why am I charged an online course fee?
This fee offsets additional costs incurred to provide online instruction, such as software and technology expenditures.
Why is there a service fee to use a credit or debit card to make a payment on my student account?
MSU is charged credit card processing fees by our credit card processing company to accept and process payments from debit and credit cards. To help cover the cost of these fees, MSU charges a 1.85% service fee to accept debt and credit cards.
Is there a fee if I pay on my student account with an electronic check/ACH payment?
No, there is no fee to make a payment on your account using an electronic check. You will need your bank routing number and your checking account number to pay with an electronic check.
Will the Recreation & Wellness Center Fee or facility fee be covered by a tuition waiver?
No, tuition waivers are only for tuition charges on your student bill.
