Profile

Dr. Gary B. LaFleur has been teaching communication skills and theory since 1973. He earned an M.A. in Communication and Rhetorical Theory from the University of Massachusetts in 1976 and a Ph.D. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication from the University of Massachusetts in 1982. Prior to his arrival at Morehead State in 1992 he was Chair of the Department of Communication at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. LaFleur is among the principal authors of a theory of communication known as The Coordinated Management of Meaning, specializing in temporal extension and logical force in the nature of unwanted repetitive patterns of conversation. He regularly teaches courses in Intercultural Communication and has taught this subject matter in Paris, France through the Kentucky Institute for International Studies.
