Profile

A specialist in twentieth-century American literature, Dr. Henneberg regularly teaches American survey and period courses, African American literature, and graduate and undergraduate courses in American poetry and African-American literature. She also teaches Gender Studies courses and, as co-director of the Berlin program of the Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS), she offers culture classes on a variety of topics in study-abroad programs. In 2009, she was awarded a Senior Fulbright Teaching and Research Grant to lecture and conduct research at the University of Hanover (Germany); in 2018, she received a similar Fulbright grant to spend five months at the University of Vienna (Austria).

Her research focuses primarily on contemporary women’s poetry. She has published on Adrienne Rich, Elizabeth Bishop, May Sarton, Judy Grahn, Lucille Clifton, and Emily Dickinson. Her book, "The Creative Crone: Aging and the Poetry of May Sarton and Adrienne Rich," funded in part by an American Postdoctoral Fellowship from the American Association of University Women (AAUW), was published in 2010.
