Art Submission Form & Guidelines

  • Only currently enrolled MSU students may enter visual artwork into Inscape.
  • Submissions must be solely the work of the artist. Reproductions or alterations of other artists' works are not permitted.
  • Up to 3 entries may be submitted
  • All submissions must have been completed while attending MSU
  • Hard copy work must be submitted unframed (mats are acceptable)
  • You will need to print and attach a label to the back of each hard copy art piece you intend to submit
  • Color or black and white entries accepted (if funding allows, art for the interior will be printed in color).


2-Dimensional Hard Copy Entries

Must measure at least 3 inches x 5 inches and may measure no larger than 24 inches x 36 inches, if larger submit as a digital file instead


3-Dimensional Entries

You must submit a high resolution photograph of the work as the actual entry (see digital entries guidelines below).

Digital Entries

  • All digital submissions must be at least 300 dpi and 6" minimum on its largest side (if the file is under 300 dpi then the image must be at least 12" minimum on its largest side)
  • Acceptable file formats include: .jpg, .tif, .pdf and .psd
  • Cell phone images are typically not a high enough resolution and might not be considered if submitted.
  • Upload your digital art file(s) when you complete your Submission Form

Prizes and Submission Deadline

Prizes will be awarded to the top four pieces:

  • 1st place: $100
  • 2nd place: $75
  • 3rd place: $50
  • Honorable mention: $25

Work which has previously received an award at another MSU Department of Art and Design sponsored competition and/or exhibition can be accepted for publication but will be ineligible for an Inscape prize.

Full-time (non-student) MSU employees are not eligible for prizes.

Note: Non-selected hard copy work will be available for pickup by mid-February. The selected works will not be returned until after the Inscape Fine Arts Showcase reception (Thursday, April 30, 2020). Selected work not picked up before June 2020 will be discarded. While all work will be handled with care, MSU is not responsible for work being damaged. Please take proper precautions in protecting your hard copy work prior to its submission (for example, cover the front with paper).

Art Submission Form

Complete the art submission form and if applicable also upload digital files to the form, and/or deliver hardcopies of 2D artwork to Room 211 in the Claypool-Young Art Building by the Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 deadline. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The publication will be revealed and prize winners announced at the Inscape Reception on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in MSU's Golding-Yang Art Gallery.

By submitting an entry to Inscape, you are granting Morehead State University permission to publish your work in the journal, on our website and in Inscape and/or Department of Art & Design and Department of English promotional or publicity materials. Furthermore, it is understood you will not receive any financial compensation for the use of said work in any of the aforementioned scenarios. Submissions must be solely the works of the artist and/or designer. Reproductions or alterations of another designer's or artist's works are not permitted.

You will be required to include a short biography in your submission form. You may include your major at MSU if you are a student, a brief description of your current artistic projects and any awards you may have won for your artwork previously. The staff of INSCAPE reserves the right to edit or condensed biographies submitted.

Sample Bio: Jane Smith is an art major at Morehead State University, whose work is generally surreal- focusing on a combination of ideas in alchemy, psychology, geology and how they speak about society as a whole and each of us as individuals. Smith displayed work in the 2016 and 2017 Juried Student Art Exhibits at the Gateway Regional Art Center and had work published in the 2017 issue of Inscape. In 2018, she received an Honorable Mention award in the Senior Exhibition at Morehead State University.
