Captain David Norwood (31) is the son of Steve and Debbie Norwood of Hendersonville, NC. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, class of 2007, with a BS degree in Electrical and Information Technology Systems.   

After college graduation, he attended Basic Officers Leader Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Air Defense Artillery Officers Basic Course at Fort Bliss, Texas.  Upon graduation from OBC, he completed the Ranger and Airborne Courses at Fort Benning, Georgia.  In June 2008, he reported to his first duty station at Fort Hood, Texas where he served as First Platoon Leader in E/4-5 ADAR.  He later transitioned into A/3-3 ADA BN where he served as the First Platoon Leader, including a deployment to Iraq in a Sense-and-Warn Battery in Task Force C-RAM (Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortars). He attended the Captains' Career Course at Fort Sill, OK in 2010.  Upon graduation, he reported to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, assigned to the Air Defense and Airspace Management Cell.  After two months, he became the Assistant Operations Officer in 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (1FURY) in 4BCT where he served for 18 months, including a seven month deployment to the Zhari District, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan from February through September, 2012.  Captain Norwood commanded Echo Battery, 3rd Battalion 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment from 2012-2013 at Fort Bragg, NC, the only Airborne Air Defense battery in the Department of Defense.  Captain Norwood then represented the Air Defense branch and the US Army as a foreign exchange instructor at the School of Artillery in Puckapunyal, Australia for two years. He transitioned to Morehead State University, Kentucky in August 2016 to the APMS role in their Army ROTC program.  

Awards and decorations include: Ranger Tab, Jumpmaster, Parachutists Badge, Air Assault Badge, Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC) Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), and the Army Achievement Medal.  His wife, Katie, is a Registered Nurse (BSN), but is currently a stay-at-home mom for their two children, Emma (2 years old) and Caleb (7 months old).  

David has one older brother, John, a Project Manager (Professional Engineer) who currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife Rebecca, a Corporate Sales Manager for the Harris Radio Corporation. David's parents are both retired public educators in North Carolina.
