High School Students

Four year scholarships are available and, in most cases, can be taken in addition to any other scholarship or grant you may receive. High school students who are applying for admission to MSU can also enroll in basic ROTC classes with no military obligation. Apply for a national ROTC scholarship.

If you've missed the national scholarship deadline, its not too late, you can apply for a campus-based scholarship! Please contact us and we will get you started.

Scholarships Include:

  • 100% tuition and fees payment.
  • $1,200 book allowance per year.
  • Free on-campus housing.
  • $300-$500 monthly stipend.

MSU/Transfer Students

Already enrolled at MSU or looking to transfer? Scholarship opportunities are still available! Attend our Leadership Training Course (LTC) during the summer. LTC is a paid month-long course at Ft. Knox, in which all travel, food, and housing is covered. You will learn tactics, land navigation and marksmanship while earning credit for basic ROTC classes. Attending LTC does not obligate you to join the military. However, should you decide ROTC is right for you, scholarship money and loan repayment is available. To apply and learn more you can contact us or visit our national website:

National Guard and Reserve Soldiers

Are you in the Army National Guard or Army Reserves? Enroll in ROTC through the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). SMP is a cooperative program that places Reserve Component soldiers into officer-trainee positions with their Troop Program Unit (TPU) while they participate as full-time students in ROTC. SMP cadets are non-deployable so they can complete their college degree.

  • 100% tuition assistance.
  • Receive experience and serve in a TPU as a company-grade officer.
  • Receive a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GFRD) scholarship if desired. Non-scholarship students may request a GRFD contract, and if approved, are assured they will have United States Army Reserve unit duty only.
  • Receive pay as an E-5. An E-5 (two year of service) is entitled to approximately $66 for one reserve drill. In general, a weekend drill is worth four one-day drills; $66 * 4 = $264 per weekend (before taxes), and around $220 after taxes. An SMP participant who performs 12 weekend drills per year could earn around $2,600.
  • Receive annual training (AT) pay with TPU (an E-5 is entitled to $66 for each day of AT; plus a basic housing allowance for the number of days at AT).
  • Receive a ROTC subsistence allowance of $350-500 per month for ten months ($3,500-$5,000 per year)
  • Receive Advance ROTC Camp cadet pay during the summer of your junior year (approximately $700)

One-year possible benefits:

  • ROTC Subsistence allowance: $5,000
  • Weekend Drills: $2,034
