Bio

Deborah Eastwood’s educational focus is the application of digital pedagogy for studying, creating, and performing music. Dr. Eastwood’s teaching, research, and performance reflect an extensive study of standard, contemporary, gender/diversity inclusive, commercial and world music. Her comprehensive experience as a music educator includes teaching the undergraduate and graduate core courses in Music Theory/Ear Training, Music History and Appreciation, Music Research, and Trumpet Performance.

She has toured and recorded as a member of the Athena Brass Band, Lexington Brass Band, SymbiosisDuo, and the Horizon Brass Quintet. She has performed with the Skyline Brass Ensemble, the Virginia Symphony, the West Virginia Symphony, the Danville Symphony, the Champaign - Urbana Symphony, and the Lancaster Opera Company. Additionally, Dr. Eastwood has presented performances at conferences, festivals and competitions hosted by the International Trumpet Guild, the International Women's Brass Conference, the International Trombone Association, the International Tuba and Euphonium Association, the North American Brass Brand Association, and the Great American Brass Band Festival.

She has served as a faculty member of The University of Central Arkansas, Morehead State University, KY; Marshall University, WV; Kentucky Christian College, KY; and Maysville Community College, KY. She earned her D.M.A. in Trumpet Performance and Literature/Music Technology from the University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign; M.M. in Trumpet Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music - Johns Hopkins University; and B.M. in Trumpet Performance from James Madison University. Her teachers include Michael Ewald, Edward Hoffman, Langston Fitzgerald III, James Kluesner, and Don McComas.
