Bio:

Ghirmay received his Ph.D. in economics with emphasis on economic development and monetary theory and policy from the University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale (SIUC) in 1997 and MA degree in economics from Vanderbilt University in 1992. In 2001, he joined the School of Business Administration at MSU, where he has been teaching a range of economics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, prior to joining the School of Business Administration, he held visiting assistant professor positions at Augustana College for two years and at Illinois College for one year where he taught economics and finance courses, and a lecturer position at the University of Asmara, in Eritrea for four years. His research interests focus on economic growth and development, in particular the effects of financial development and international trade on productivity and economic efficiency. Several of his research papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Journal of International Business and Economics, Applied Economics and Southwestern Economic Review. Ghirmay says that his favorite thing about teaching is the realization that he is conveying knowledge that, in one way or another, will have a positive impact on the profession and life of his students and society. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and watching sports.
