Bio

Dr. Flint Harrelson was born and reared in East-Central New Mexico and grew up riding horses, showing cattle and participating in FFA throughout high school. He attended West Texas A & M University where he studied animal science. While attending school, he worked for more than 2 years at the Cattlemen’s Carcass Data Service, collecting carcass data at multiple beef harvest plants throughout the U.S. Following graduation from WTAMU, he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to work on his master’s degree in feedlot cattle nutrition. His research was focused on corn hybrid differences in digestibility and performance when fed to finishing cattle. He completed his education by earning his Ph.D. at New Mexico State University, where his research focused on how maternal supplement strategy affects calf health and performance throughout its lifetime. Dr. Harrelson has been employed at MSU since August 2012 and has been actively involved in animal production at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex, animal science teaching, regional and state livestock shows and judging contests, and various producer events. Harrelson serves as a co-advisor the MSU's Collegiate FFA chapter, is chair of the Department Farm Committee and is a member of the Department Scholarship Committee.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their “kids” (2 dogs, a cat, and a horse), watching movies and being outside.
