Bio

Dr. Daniel Maitland received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Western Michigan University after completing his internship at the University of Wisconsin Psychiatric Institute and Clinics in 2015. After being awarded his doctorate, Maitland completed a two-year post-doc at the University of Washington Center for the Science of Social Connection before taking a position as an assistant professor of psychology at Texas A&M Corpus Christi from 2015-2017. He teaches a variety of classes related to clinical psychology including but not limited to assessment, personality, and therapy. 
 

Research Interests:

Dr. Maitland’s research focuses on two different domains. First, he’s interested in understanding the bi-directional relationship and processes between close relationships and physical/mental health. Additionally, Dr. Maitland is interested in psychotherapy process and outcomes in contemporary behavior therapies, especially Functional Analytic Psychotherapy. 
 

Research topics:

  • Mental health’s impact on engaging in vulnerable disclosures and perceived responsiveness of conversation partners
  • Assessing the mechanism of action in Functional Analytic Psychotherapy
  • The biological and physiological mechanisms that account for the increased mortality rate in lonely individuals
