Zargari earns KACE outstanding faculty award

Dr. Ahmad Zargari, professor and associate dean of the School of Engineering and Information Systems (SEIS) at Morehead State University, recently received the Outstanding Faculty Award at the Kentucky Association of Colleges and Employers Fall Conference, an honor for which he was nominated by MSU’s Office of Career Services. The award is designed to recognize outstanding effort and achievement by a faculty member in the promotion and development of experiential education programs and/or support of Career Services’ mission.

"Dr. Zargari champions the importance of experiential education to all students with whom he works and has secured strong relationships with employers in our region. As a result, our engineering students have opportunities to gain hands-on skills by interning at organizations including Mazak, Toyota, KDMK, Cooper Standard, GE, SRG Global, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, and Regal Beloit, among others,” said Megan Boone, interim director of Career Services. “Moreover, Dr. Zargari enthusiastically engages in MSU Career Center events, including attending annual fall and spring career fairs to network with recruiters. We are grateful for his impact at Morehead State University and were proud to nominate him for the Outstanding Faculty Award.”

During his time at MSU, Zargari has established an SEIS advisory board made up of industry leaders who gather to share opinions, suggestions and feedback to ensure MSU’s programs are meeting the needs of employers. This also allows employers involved with the advisory board to promote their own organizations and experiential education opportunities.

“It is thanks to these ongoing efforts that Dr. Zargari has established strong opportunity pipelines for both students and employers. He has mentored hundreds of co-op students who are presently holding high-level engineering and management positions around the country, which is a reflection of his impact,” Boone said. “In short, Dr. Zargari contributes to a ‘college to career’ culture wherein students understand the extent to which establishing a record of professional field experience before graduation is critical to success in a competitive marketplace.”

“During the past 25 years, I have been pleased to facilitate co-op and internship experiences for students who pursue graduate and undergraduate programs in the School of Engineering and Information Systems,” Zargari said. “Internships with leading companies have provided an excellent opportunity for our students to gain hands-on competencies that are required to build a rewarding career. Employers are a key partner in this process, because their participation ensures that students receive a well-rounded education in both the classroom and the workforce. I am very pleased and honored to accept this award, and sincerely thank the Kentucky Association of Colleges and Employers.”
