Three MSU students earn Order of Omega scholarships

Students who participate in Greek Life at MSU are often presented with opportunities and circumstances to tap into their potential as leaders. This year, the Order of Omega, a national leadership honor society for Greek student organizations, is rewarding three MSU students who exhibit a combination of leadership qualities and stellar academic performance.

Makayla Arnett, a junior from Winchester; Tessa Collins, a junior from Morehead; and Kara Nicole Hugunin, a senior from Cincinnati, each received a scholarship on behalf of the Order of Omega. All three students are members of both the Gamma Omega Chapter of the Order of Omega and Kappa Delta sorority.

According to Stace Sievert, coordinator of fraternity and sorority life and student organizations, membership in the Order of Omega is limited to the top three percent of fraternity/sorority juniors and seniors on campus. Membership is based on excellence in academics, demonstration of strong character, leadership and service in four areas: service to your fraternity or sorority, service to the Greek community outside of your fraternity or sorority, service to the MSU campus community and service to the surrounding community.

The scholarship program of Order of Omega was established to recognize academic achievements, participation and leadership in campus organizations, citizenship and service to the Order of Omega and the campus community. While normally only two members of each chapter are eligible to apply for scholarships, the MSU chapter’s robust membership numbers and consistency with paying dues led to the three MSU students that applied being chosen from a national pool of applicants.

“We at MSU were one of a select few universities across the country able to apply for three scholarships,” Sievert said. “Even better, our three applicants won them, which was fabulous news.”
