MSPR airs special programs for MLK Day

Morehead State Public Radio (MSPR) will air a morning of special programming to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 21.

The programming schedule is as follows:
  •  MLK and the Power of Nonviolence- Monday, Jan. 21, at 9 a.m.: Humankind looks back at the stunning display of forgiveness and nonviolence by the traumatized family members of Mother Emanuel church congregants, who were gunned down in 2015, in the wake of the gunman’s conviction. We will also hear stories of peacemakers who draw from their diverse lives and religious traditions as a basis for breaking down barriers and promoting conflict resolution.
  •  Barbara Collins Bowie, A Time For Tales-Monday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m.: Carolyn Franzini is your host for A Time For Tales, an hour of storytelling and music. On this program, “Stories from The Moth: African-American Storytellers” will feature stories by Barbara Collins Bowie, Christian Garland, Kemp Powers, Vin Shambry and Dame Wilburn. Songs by Guy Davis and Sweet Honey in the Rock will also be featured. A Time For Tales is a production of Morehead State Public Radio.
  • The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, Light and Love of Freedom-Monday, Jan. 21 at 11a.m. The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square present a Music and the Spoken Word Heritage Special, “Light and Love of Freedom.” We honor those who have labored in the hope that all might enjoy freedom. Through the songs and spirituals of a people who yearned for liberty, and the stories of those who work to promote love and respect for all, we celebrate this quest for universal dignity and mutual understanding.
