Participants the the MLK Memorial March at MSU

March held in honor of MLK

Members of the Morehead State community gathered at the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC) to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King with MSU’s annual Unity March on Monday, Jan. 21.

Approximately 60 people attended the event, including students, faculty, administrators and members of the community. The event began with remarks from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity members Sayyid Kanu and Jerome Brooks, followed by a march that went up University Boulevard and looped back through campus to ADUC.

Kanu said it’s important for him to be involved in honoring Dr. King, as a member of King's former fraternity as well as personally.

“It was important to me because Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a part of our prestigious fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha, so for me to talk about his legacy and how he led from a fraternity standpoint means is big deal to me because he paved the way,” Kanu said. “It is because of his hard work, dedication and fearless risk-taking attitude that I was able to stand before everyone and give that speech. This is a brother I learned about my whole life and to do something on his behalf means everything and more to me.”
