MSU Equestrian Team members at competition in Midway.

Equestrian Teams compete in Midway 

Jordan Bagnall, Maria Pohlabeln and Rudy Pohlabeln.The Morehead State University Equestrian Team traveled to Midway University for their last regular season Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) horse show, Feb. 16-17. On Saturday, the team earned High Point Team honors, with freshman Jordyn Bagnall taking High Point Rider and senior Tori Winn tying for Reserve High Point Rider. On Sunday, the team placed 3rd overall.

Some high placings for the weekend include:
  • Jordyn Bagnall, freshman from Burlington, first in Intermediate Fences, 3rd in Open Fences, 1st and 3rd in Intermediate Flat. 
  • Kira Danziger, junior from Mason, Ohio, first in novice fences, third in novice flat.  
  • Anya Deaton, Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics junior from Alexandria, second in novice flat.  
  • Lydia Deaton, Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics junior from Alexandra, second in novice flat. 
  • Hannah Eldridge, junior from Morehead, third in novice fences. 
  • Audrey Reed, freshman from Florence, first in walk-trot-canter. 
  • Tori Winn, senior from Finchville, first in open fences, first and second in open flat.   

Sydnee BarkerOn Feb. 23, the whole team traveled to IHSA regionals. At regionals, the division qualifiers from regular season shows competed for two spots in each division to continue to hunt seat zones or western semifinals. Three students will be continuing in post-season competition. Winn will be continuing to zones competition on April 6. Sydnee Barker, senior from Frankfurt, Ohio, and Rudy Pohlabeln, freshman from Edgewood, will be competing in semifinals on March 16. The team finished fourth overall in the region for hunt seat, and fifth overall for western. MSU also had riders in the running for high point rider in both seats, with Winn placing fourth overall for hunt seat high point rider and Barker fifth overall for western high point rider.    

Hunt seat regional results: 
  • Tori Winn qualified for open flat and took champion in her division. 
  • Jordyn Bagnall qualified for Intermediate fences and placed seventh, as well as placing sixth in novice flat.  
  • Kira Danziger and Lexi Nelko, senior from Cranberry Township, Penn., qualified for novice fences and placed sixth and eighth, respectively, at regionals. 
  • Hannah Eldridge and Audrey Reed qualified for walk-trot-canter and Reed placed seventh.

  • Sydnee Barker qualified for open horsemanship and took reserve champion.
  • Bry Pullins, senior from Piketown, Ohio, qualified for advanced horsemanship and placed fourth.
  • Rudy Pohlabeln, Jordyn Bagnall, Emily Shepard, senior from Marysville, Ohio, and Audrey Reed all qualified for intermediate western horsemanship. Pohlabeln took reserve champion of this division, and Bagnall placed fourth.
